Product Description
The advanced surround sound processing section is powered by two 32 bit floating point DSP chips, and features the highest resolution surround decoding, including Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio, along with a full suite of additional surround decoding functions. The powerful seven channel amplifier section features 115 watts of power per channel, and provides the choice of driving a 5.1 channel system in the main room, with another stereo speaker pair in another room with independent source selection. The advanced video section features four v1.3a HDMI inputs, along with four additional wideband component video inputs, with Faroudja DCDi video processing and up-conversion that allows a single component or HDMI cable run to the HDTV. The AVR-2809CI is one of the first to feature Audyssey Dynamic Volume, which automatically eliminates irritating jumps in volume between TV shows and commercials, as well as Audyssey Dynamic EQ to ensure rich bass and smooth tonal balance, even at low volume levels. For optimum audio fidelity, the Audyssey MultEQ in-room acoustic correction system measures the overall room response at up to eight measurement points and tailors the sound for the most natural tonal balance everywhere in the listening space.

1 out of 5 stars denon 2809ci - Most disappointing purchase of 2009   January 29, 2010

A wonderful sounding amplifier with a Blu-Ray movie when using HDMI input, IF you are willing to do a complete, 100% manual setup. I believe the unit mis-reads Doldy True HD and DTS HD Master audio inputs. Low frequency audio EQ is way off, and to some degree, the dynamic range is too wide, in my opinion. I use different EQ setups for Blu-Ray, regular DVD, HDTV, etc. For some reason, audio CD's don't seem to require any adjustment.
Video. Here's the big disappointment. I have some older equipment that I am not ready to give up. The big sales pitch for this unit over some of the others was: It can convert formats to simplify your cable hook-up. Move component to S-Video, composite to component, etc. Hooked me! After 7 months of ownership, one word: PROTOTYPE!! (Def: a great idea at the very beginning of its engineering cycle that may work someday, just not today) My unit appears to lose video sync between input and output signals. Heaven help you if you push a pause button. My TV monitor will display a picture with enough video noise/snow to warrant a winter storm warning. (Only after 4 or 5 seconds required to re-sync things, of course) Someone had written about this problem with a Sony TV; add Hitachi and Panasonic to that list.
A suggestion to Denon: You have owned McIntosh Labs for some time now, walk in the front door, see how it's done right.

5 out of 5 stars Denon Receiver   September 2, 2009
Dustin Aimes (Huron, SD United States)
Wow!! This receiver is amazing. We are so glad we spent the extra money to buy this one. Fantastic sound, takes care of the variable sound issue when commercials come on. Would definitely use this vendor again, product was shipped quickly and was exactly as described.

4 out of 5 stars Audissey is always a good option?   August 29, 2009

I bought this receiver and after some days I got to setup it correctily ... I think. The Audissey options sounds great for some blu-rays like Ted Nugent and Incubus at Red Rocks, because these blu-rays have a weak sound ... Audissey puts them on fire, especially the drums of Ted Nugent's blu-ray. Return to Forever's blu-ray doesn't need the Audissey on, because the sound is really great!!! NIN didn't sound good either with Audissey on. Anyone thinks/hear like me???

5 out of 5 stars This thing is awesome   August 14, 2009

I've been an audio engineer most of my life. Spent 43 years at ABC-TV.
Got 2 Emmys for my work. I worked everything from uontold numbeer of Wide World of Sports to 12 Academy Awards. I say this because I hope you will understand when I say...."This DENON Surround Sound
VR-2809CI IS FABULOUS!" I know whereof I speak. One tip....The setup is quite tricky. If you are new to this sort of Receiver/Amplifier, you would be wise to have it professionally installed. It handles 7 plus components for me and once it's setup you can sit back and relax. I thot I knew what I was doing and ended with a pro installation. However you go, you will not be unhappy.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent A/V receiver   April 18, 2009

I researched many A/V receivers and finally settled for this one based on Denon's reputation. I picked this particular model as I wanted to have two independent zones. In Zone 1, I have my family room (TV + surround system). In Zone 2, I have stereo speakers to all the bedrooms. My kids can watch a cartoon in the family room, and I can listen to music in the other rooms.

I would highly recommend this product.
