As with previous models, the PlayStation 3 120GB system features an IBM "Cell" processor and a co-developed NVIDIA graphics processor that together allow the system to perform two trillion calculations per second. Yet the 120GB system manages to improve on this with its 45nm version of the processor, which although running at the same 60+nm speed as previous PS3 versions, uses less energy. This makes the unit's smaller size and quieter fan possible. Along with the traditional AV and composite connections, the 120GB system also boasts an HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) port, which delivers uncompressed, unconverted digital picture and sound to compatible high-definition TVs and projectors. (The system is capable of 128-bit pixel precision and 1080p resolution for a full HD experience) This console also provides for an extreme sound experience by supporting Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1, as well as Linear PCM 7.1. PS3 is an amazing!!! game console, they dont lie when they say it only does everything. not only can you play games and watch blu-rays, but you can also surf the web.i highly recommend it to anyone all ages.
Great but low power USB March 8, 2010

See nobody brings this issue up since it does use much less power than the previous models. I notice the USB is very nerfed when it comes to power output. I couldn't have a mouse hooked up to it and retrieve data from my thumbdrive at the same time. But as long as I used the gamepad plugged in it was fine. Tested both slots then I bought a powered USB hub and that confirmed it. The slim is great but it lacks power to the usb ports. Think about picking up a usb powered hub to remedy that issue. Other than that it is DEAD SILENT compared to my older model and it doesn't heat the room up it's dvd loading is slower sometimes by as much as 20 seconds on some movies but it's not a big deal. Hope that helps ya.

This is a fantastic piece of hardware, even if you can't afford a game to go with it immediately. It is well worth the $300 price tag. People looking for a new entertainment system would do well to consider this system over a XBOX 360. It is a better product straight out of the box, standard Bluray Dvd player, built in wifi adapter, Free access to the Playstation Network, plenty of free demos to last you until you can afford a game or two of your own, and of course the remote play feature that enables you to watch videos, listen to music, and look at pictures on a psp if you have one. All in all, Fantastic!!!

The incentive to buy a PS3 really went up after Netflix released software that can now be used on the PS3. I primarily use it for Blu-ray movies and Netflix streaming at the moment. I had really been considering an LG unit since those have WiFi and are a Netflix ready device and would probably hold off on the PS3 until more of the games I like to play (i.e. Final Fantasy) were available. I pre-ordered Final Fantasy XIII, which will be my first game on the PS3.
Don't through your PS2 out if you still have older PS1 and PS2 games, since current PS3 models are no longer backwards compatible. It would have been great if Sony could have maintained such compatibility.
